Media: Indonesian President says Putin plans to attend G20 summit

Indonesian President Joko Widodo says that Russian leader Vladimir Putin plans to attend the G20 summit to be held in November on the Indonesian island of Bali, CNN Indonesia news portal reported on Friday.


"President Putin expressed his gratitude for the invitation to the G20 summit and said he would attend," the portal quoted Widodo as saying.


The two leaders had a telephone conversation on Thursday. Putin discussed the situation in Ukraine and G20 activities with his Indonesian counterpart.


Earlier, the Minister of Finance of Indonesia, which is chairing the G20 this year, Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that the leaders of all G20 countries are invited to the summit of association, including Putin. Indonesia's position led to criticism from a number of countries, including the United States, Canada and Australia.


On April 22, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that no decision had been made yet on whether Putin would attend the G20 summit.
