Media: IS militants destroy Muslim shrine in eastern Iraq

Militants of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS, banned in the Russian Federation) have destroyed a Sunni Muslim religious site in Diyala province in eastern Iraq. This was reported on Monday by the news portal Shafaq news, citing sources in the country's security agencies.


During a clash between Iraqi security forces and IS terrorists in the al-Abar area, 19 kilometers northeast of the city of Baqubah (the administrative center of Diyala), extremists entered the site and detonated several explosive devices. According to some reports, the terrorists blew up the shrine.


According to the portal, special forces arrived at the site of the explosion and are searching for terrorists in the surrounding areas.


There is no information about victims or casualties.
