Media: Israeli artillery attacked Syrian positions in Al Quneitra

24 April 2023

On Monday, Israeli troops fired at Syrian positions north of the town of Al Quneitra, which is located near the occupied Golan Heights. This was reported by the Al-Watan Syrian newspaper.

According to it, the Israeli artillery fired more than 20 rockets. There were no reports of Syrian casualties or material damage. The attack took place in the early hours of the morning, and the shells exploded near the village of Khodr. Witnesses heard a heavy explosion.

The last attack on the area was last May by an Israeli drone. A militiaman from the National Defense Forces fighting on the side of the Syrian army was killed then.

The city of Al Quneitra is the administrative center of the province of the same name in southwestern Syria.

The Golan Heights were seized by Israel during the Six Day War in 1967. In 1981 the Israeli parliament unilaterally proclaimed the sovereignty of the Jewish state over the territory. The annexation was invalidated by UN Security Council Resolution 497 on December 17, 1981.
