Nearly one million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have entered the winter season without proper shelter, according to a statement from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), as reported by Qatar’s Al Jazeera.
The NRC revealed that by the end of November, only 285,000 displaced Palestinians in Gaza had received essential materials for rebuilding homes, leaving over 945,000 people still in dire need of assistance. “We’ve only received a fraction of the aid required to address the housing crisis,” said Jeroen Quanjer, National Cluster Coordinator in Palestine, as quoted by Al Jazeera.
“Hundreds of thousands of displaced families are enduring cold weather and heavy rains without adequate protection. Israel’s repeated refusal to allow basic construction materials into Gaza has severely hampered our ability to scale up emergency shelter projects to withstand the harsh winter conditions,” an NRC representative stated.
Several international organizations have reported ongoing Israeli restrictions on the delivery of aid to Gaza. Israeli authorities deny these claims, insisting that they are not obstructing humanitarian shipments to the Palestinian enclave.
