Media Report: Hamas Ready to Release Male Hostages in Exchange for Senior Palestinians

30 November 2023

The Palestinian movement Hamas is ready to extend the ceasefire with Israel and negotiate the release of male hostages in exchange for high-ranking Palestinians held in Israeli prisons, according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal.

Egyptian officials revealed that discussions with Hamas took place ahead of a meeting in Doha involving Egyptian, Israeli, and Qatari representatives to explore the conditions for continuing the humanitarian pause. Hamas expressed willingness to consider the release of men in Gaza in exchange for senior Palestinians imprisoned in Israel.

Sources indicate that Hamas representatives assured negotiators that they could locate and release all hostages held by other groups in the enclave. However, Israel has expressed reluctance to engage in new talks until all 100 women and children are released.

In Qatar, CIA Director William Burns, Israeli Mossad intelligence chief David Barnea, and Qatari representatives with close ties to Hamas political leadership are expected to discuss the next phase of the ceasefire agreement, according to the sources.
