Media Report: Israel Releases 30 Children as Part of Truce Agreement

28 November 2023

Israeli authorities have released three Palestinian women and 30 children as part of a hostage release agreement with Hamas. This information was reported by the Qatari TV channel Al Jazeera.

As part of the fourth phase of the detainee swap deal, "the occupation [Israeli] authorities released 30 children and 3 Palestinian women from among those imprisoned in Israeli prisons," the TV channel reported. A busload of Palestinian prisoners left Ofer prison, accompanied by medical teams from the Red Cross Society, and arrived in Ramallah in the West Bank. Al Jazeera pointed out that "at least one of those released was in need of medical attention."

On November 22, the Hamas movement reported reaching a four-day agreement with Israel, brokered by Egypt and Qatar, on a humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip. The agreements called for the release of 50 children, teenagers (under the age of 19), and women held in the enclave in exchange for the release of 150 children and teenagers (under the age of 19) and women from Israeli prisons. The truce went into effect at 08:00 Moscow time on November 24, the same day the first group of hostages was released. Initially, the agreement stipulated the possibility of extending the four-day pause by a day for the release of each additional group of 10 hostages.

The Israeli authorities have not yet officially confirmed their agreement to extend the four-day pause, although the day before it expired, the Prime Minister of the Jewish state, Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke positively about the possibility of such an extension.
