On Wednesday night, supporters of the insurgent group Afghanistan Liberation Front (ALF) carried out a missile attack targeting positions of the radical Taliban movement (banned in Russia) in Badakhshan province, situated in the northeastern region of the country. Local sources reported this occurrence to the newspaper Hasht-e Subh.
As per these sources, the attack was directed at a Taliban checkpoint positioned at the entrance of Faizabad city's airport, which serves as the administrative hub of the province.
According to an announcement made on the Afghanistan Liberation Front's (ALF) page on the X social network (formerly Twitter), one Taliban fighter was killed and three others sustained injuries as a result of the attack. However, Taliban spokesmen have refrained from providing any comments on this matter.
This marks the second incident of an attack targeting Taliban supporters in less than a week. On August 8, Aamaj News reported that the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF) executed an assault on a Taliban camp, resulting in the demise of two individuals aligned with the Taliban.
After the US disclosed its decision to withdraw its military forces from Afghanistan in the spring of 2021, the Taliban embarked on a significant campaign to seize control of the country. This culminated in their peaceful entry into Kabul on August 15, 2021. In response, dissenting forces within Afghanistan's ranks initiated a resistance movement, with two prominent groups emerging: the National Resistance Front (located primarily in the north and northeast) and the Afghanistan Liberation Front (typically active in the southern regions, though recently, ALF supporters have extended their operations into the northern territories as well).
