Media reports: Russia surpasses Saudi Arabia and Iraq in oil supplies to India in July

09 August 2023

Russia has become India's largest exporter of crude oil in July, surpassing Iraq and Saudi Arabia in energy supplies to the country, according to a report by the Indian newspaper Morning Express.

The data indicates that in July, India imported an average of 1.9 million barrels per day from Russia, whereas the imports from Saudi Arabia were 484 thousand barrels per day.

Over the past year and a half, Russia has consistently held the top position as the leading country in fuel supplies to the South Asian republic. The June report from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) highlighted that energy deliveries from Russia accounted for 43% of India's total volume of imports in April. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak noted that oil supplies from Russia to India saw a substantial increase of 19 times in 2022, reaching 41 million tons, and oil products also doubled to 6.2 million tons.
