According to sources cited by Politico, three European countries, including Ireland and Spain, are set to announce the recognition of Palestine as a state on May 22.
The third country expected to recognize Palestinian statehood could be Belgium, Malta, Norway, or Slovenia, as they have previously indicated similar intentions.
Politico suggests that Oslo will likely join Madrid and Dublin in their recognition today, while the other countries may announce their decisions later.
In late April, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell stated that several EU countries would recognize Palestine by the end of May. Among European states, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, and Hungary recognize Palestine's independence. Currently, 143 out of 193 UN member countries, including Russia, recognize Palestine as an independent state.
