Media: Russia and Indonesia discuss launching direct flights

17 May 2023

Russia and Indonesia are considering to launch direct and charter flights between the countries, Izvestia reported on Wednesday citing the Russian embassy in Jakarta.

According to the newspaper, the Russian embassy reported that the issue of launching direct and charter flights is being worked out. They added that now there are more than 40 thousand Russians in Bali, including tourists and permanent residents.

However, Vice President of ATOR (outbound tourism) Arthur Muradyan said that the prospects for resuming direct flights to Indonesia are poor. He explained that now this direction is in demand among a certain category of tourists who like Asia, in particular, Indonesia, and are ready for long connecting flights.

Izvestia sent an inquiry to Rosaviatsiya. According to a source in the aviation industry, Russian airlines have no plans to launch direct flights to Indonesia this season.

As for the issue of quotas for tourist traffic, Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Jose Antonio Morato Tavares explained to Izvestia that the final decision on quotas requires consideration by different agencies and discussion by the authorities in Jakarta.
