Deputy Foreign Ministers of Russia, Iran, Syria and Turkey will meet in Moscow on March 15-16, the Turkish TRT TV channel reported on Monday.
Earlier, Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told TASS that Russia continues to work on organizing the four-party meeting scheduled for earlier this week.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on March 8 that technical talks involving representatives of the four countries were possible in Moscow. According to him, the parties will discuss the organization of the foreign ministers' meeting of these countries.
On December 28, 2022, consultations of the Russian, Syrian and Turkish defense ministers took place in Moscow as part of the process of normalizing relations between Ankara and Damascus. At the meeting, an agreement was reached to establish a joint trilateral commission. These consultations are to be followed by a meeting of the foreign ministers of the three countries, whose agenda will include talks between Turkish and Syrian Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Bashar al-Assad.
Erdogan told reporters last December 15 that he had proposed to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to hold a trilateral meeting with the Syrian leader. This summit, he said, should be preceded by talks at the level of representatives of special services, defense and foreign ministers.
