The General Directorate of the state security of Lebanon informed the administration of the seaport where the explosion occurred on August 4, about "security shortcomings" in the storage of explosive cargo in April 2019. Al-Mayadeen TV channel reports.
"In April 2019, we noticed security shortcomings at the port warehouse number 12," the TV channel quotes the agency's statement. It notes that a letter was sent to the port authority of Beirut demanding that urgent measures have to be taken. "The law will punish all those who misled the investigation, and those who did not fulfill their duties," the Department added.
Earlier, Reuters, citing a source in the Lebanese security agencies, reported that Lebanese President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Hassan Diab, who announced the resignation of the government on August 10, received information from the security services about the presence of explosive cargo in the port of Beirut in July, two weeks before the tragedy. In turn, Sky News Arabia TV channel on August 5, citing the Director of the port of Beirut and the head of the customs service of the Republic, Badri Daher, informed that the Lebanese customs and the General Directorate of public security asked to remove dangerous goods from the port territory, but these requests were ignored for six years.
