The provisional government of the Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation) that seized power in Afghanistan appointed a new consul general in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). Tolo News TV channel reported on Tuesday.
The diplomat, who represented the previous government, was officially removed from his post. The post was taken over by Taliban representative Abdurrahman Fida.
In late February, the Taliban appointed new diplomats to the Afghan embassy in Tehran and the consulate general in Istanbul.
The Taliban launched a massive operation to take control of Afghanistan after the US announced in the spring of 2021 the decision to withdraw its military forces from the country. On August 15, the Taliban entered Kabul without a fight and President Ashraf Ghani left the republic. On the night of August 31, the US military left Kabul airport, which was the inglorious end of almost 20 years of the US presence in Afghanistan. On September 7, the radicals announced the composition of the provisional government, whose legitimacy has not yet been recognized by any country.
