Turkish army artillery shelled the Zirkan border area in the northern Syrian province of Al-Hasakah on Wednesday, Kurdish news agency Firat reported.
According to its reports, several shells exploded in the settlement of Arab-Khan, where government troops' positions are deployed. The Syrian personnel was wounded as a result of the shelling and one soldier was hospitalized.
The town of Abu Rassin in the northwestern province of Al-Hasakah and the surrounding villages of Umm Kharmila, Dada Abdal, al-Nuweihat, Tal-Al ward and al-Rubeyat also came under fire. According to the agency, there were casualties among civilians, their number is being specified, there was damage to residential buildings.
On October 29, five Syrian soldiers were wounded on the line of contact with pro-Turkish militias west of Aleppo. The mortar fire targeted, in particular, the village of Miranaz, located south of the security zone that Ankara established in 2017. Syrian troops and Kurdish units of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) returned fire to the area of Tilal al-Sham, where militant forces are concentrated.
In June, the Syrian army command moved 25 armored vehicles and several trucks with soldiers to the town of Tell Rifaat, west of Aleppo. Military reinforcements were also deployed in positions around the Syrian Air Force base in Menega. The transfer of Syrian troops was coordinated with the SDF and aimed to prevent a possible Turkish invasion.
Turkey and pro-Turkish militias now control 10% of Syria's total of 4.4 million people.
