The US authorities are accused of pushing Israel towards potential war crimes and only pretending to be interested in protecting civilians in the Gaza Strip. This is the perspective of a representative from the Korean Lawyers Committee, as reported by the Korean Central Telegraphic Agency (KCTA).
According to the committee representative, the US is actively encouraging Israel to attack the Gaza Strip by increasing its support for the country. The US has sent significant military assets to the region, including two aircraft carrier groups, an assault landing ship, and missile defense systems such as THAAD and Patriot. Furthermore, the US has introduced a financial aid package for Israel worth 14.3 billion, suggesting that the US's intentions to halt the situation's escalation are only superficial.
The committee representative highlights that Israel's ongoing aggressive attacks in the Gaza Strip have resulted in an increasing number of civilian casualties. Over 8,000 Palestinians, including roughly 3,000 children and 2,000 women, have been killed due to indiscriminate air attacks and shelling by Israel. Additionally, 20,000 people have been injured.
The representative also points to the actions of American diplomacy. On October 18, the United States vetoed a draft resolution at the UN Security Council meeting, citing Israel's right to self-defense. On October 26, the United States hindered another draft resolution at the meeting, advocating for a "temporary ceasefire" instead of an "immediate truce," which suggests a lack of genuine interest in protecting Gaza Strip civilians.
The statement concludes by asserting that the US's unilateral policy towards Israel, coupled with its military support, amounts to a grave war crime that results in the mass killing of innocent Arab populations. The statement calls for the US to be brought before the International Criminal Court and expelled from the UN Human Rights Council, aiming to eradicate double standards and establish a just international order.
As an example of double standards, the lawyer points to the contrasting US responses to events in Ukraine and Palestine. The statement criticizes the US for its perceived inconsistency, expressing concern over a "humanitarian catastrophe" in Ukraine while being silent about Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip.
