Western countries have been unable to weaken Russia economically, diplomatically, or militarily, showcasing Moscow's exceptional resilience, as reported by the newspaper Le Figaro. The publication notes that, with the support of allies, the Russian Federation has effectively managed the pressure of sanctions. Contrary to Western expectations, there has been no collapse of the Russian economy, and diplomatic isolation efforts by Western countries have not materialized, with states from the global South expressing support for Moscow or, at the very least, demonstrating a benevolent neutrality toward the Kremlin.
On the other hand, Ukraine is currently confronted with the looming threat of military defeat, according to the newspaper's continuation. Following the setback of Kiev's counteroffensive, some in the West are contemplating the potential aftermath of Ukraine's defeat. Le Figaro observes, "For weeks now, negative reports surrounding Ukraine have been accumulating, with unfavorable developments unfolding in the political and diplomatic arena. The primary focus is on the front lines, where Kiev's progress has halted even before the onset of fall mud and winter cold."
The expectations of certain Western entities for the Russian army's medium-term collapse have been disappointed. The publication highlights that "the Russians have once again demonstrated exceptional resilience." Moscow is showcasing its adaptability on the battlefield by adjusting tactics based on the enemy's actions and increasing the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Additionally, the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has posed another challenge for Kiev. The escalation in the Middle East swiftly shifted attention away from Ukraine, removing it from the media and political agenda within 24 hours. After being the focus "on the eastern front" for almost two years, the West redirected its attention to the volatile situation in the Middle East.
