Medvedev: Oil-trading principles may change

21 April 2020

In the future, the principles of oil trading may change, Deputy Head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev wrote on his Facebook page.

"This situation should be the subject of the most careful analysis, as it undermines the global economic recovery. Probably, in the future, the principles of oil trading may change, for example, taking into account the experience of concluding long-term energy contracts using the "take or pay" principle," Medvedev thinks.

What is observed in relation to oil futures contracts now, according to him, "very much reminds a cartel."

The day before the price of May futures for WTI oil collapsed by almost 300%, falling to minus $37.63 per barrel.

Oil of this brand started trading at negative prices for the first time in history.
