The enlarged meeting of the Presidium of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia was held in Moscow.
“We, the heads of the muftiates and local Muslim organizations of the Spiritual Assembly of Russian Muslims, for the sake of the Almighty, call you with sincere respect and kind prejudice, as responsible religious leaders, to start a real dialogue about spiritual unification and ask to hear us. With a feeling of sincere respect for fellow believers, the whole society, and our multinational and multiconfessional country, we consider it necessary to propose to initiate preparations for meetings of the heads of the largest Muslim organizations in Russia in order to think together about how to overcome misunderstanding and discord in our ranks in the near future”, the message reads (the full text in Russian is available at the website of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia).
The meeting was attended by the heads of centralized Muslim organizations of the Russian Federation, representatives of state authorities, prominent scholars, experts and theologians, religious and public figures.
The participants discussed the results of the Assembly's activity in 2019 and work plans for 2020, issues of joint activities to harmonize inter-religious and interethnic relations, preservation of the Islamic historical heritage, respect for Muslim rights in Russia, as well as methods to counter extremist ideology.
