Metropolitan Feofan calls cooperation between Russia and the OIC vital

Cooperation between Russia and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is not only strategically beneficial but also vital for the preservation of civilizational culture, the Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Metropolitan Feofan of Kazan and Tatarstan said today at the V annual meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision  (GSV) "Russia-Islamic world".


According to the religious figure, Russia and the Islamic world are united by the "spiritual and civilizational composition of upholding the traditions of peoples", as well as common tasks and problems. Russia's in-depth cooperation with the Islamic world will help to defend culture and traditions, as well as increase the importance of the sides in the world in an economic sense.


Separately, he stressed the relevance of the two basic principles of the OIC-moderation and modernization - and gave an example of their successful application in Tatarstan.


"Tatarstan is a kind of laboratory, a platform that has shown in practice that Muslims and Christians can not only live in tolerance but also in "cooperation",  said Bishop Feofan.


Today, the V annual meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision (GSV) "Russia-Islamic world" has started its work in Ufa.  The main topic of discussion is " Interfaith harmony:   the experience of Russia and member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)".
