The most complex and explosive situation for the spread of coronavirus is developing in the Syrian Trans-Euphrates Region and in the area around at-Tanf,  the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova told a briefing.

"The most difficult and potentially explosive, in terms of the spread of coronavirus situation is in the Trans-Euphrates region and in the area around al-Tanf - that is, in those parts of Syria, illegally occupied by the US and its allies," she said, in particular.

The situation, according to the diplomat, is further complicated by the fact that there is no humanitarian access to these areas.

In addition, there is a high concentration of mines and unexploded ordnance, and only two hospitals are functioning.

"At the same time, these territories are the most problematic hotbeds of potentially mass infection, namely overcrowded prisons, which contain more than 10 thousand prisoners of ISIS (ISIS – a terrorist group outlawed in the Russian Federation), camps for internally displaced persons, only in one of them - al-Haul - remains about 67 thousand people," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
