Michel admitted that Global South remembers Moscow's help in anti-colonial struggles

16 February 2023

Many countries of the Global South do not forget that Moscow helped them to free themselves from European colonialists. This was stated by President of the European Council Charles Michel to Libération, explaining the refusal of Asian, African and Latin American states to support the position of the West in the Ukrainian conflict.

Michel noted that since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the European Union has been engaged in a "diplomatic battle within the global community," trying to win over the Global South. "Many of these countries have not forgotten that it was Moscow that helped them free themselves from the European colonizers," the European Council chief acknowledged in an interview published in the Paris edition on Thursday. - "Nor have they forgotten that we acted unilaterally in Iraq and Libya. And it is through this prism that they look at the Ukrainian conflict."
