04 August 2020

Militants of the Jabhat al-Nusra  (a terrorist group banned in Russia) have had several attacks on positions of the Syrian government forces in the southern areas of the Idlib de-escalation zone over the past day, all of them were repulsed. The enemy suffered significant damage, not without losses on the part of the Syrian troops, the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties reports.

"Over the past day, Jabhat al-Nusra militants have made several attempts to break through the positions of the Syrian Arab Army in the area of Al-Hamrat. All the attacks of the militants were repulsed, while they suffered significant damage in manpower and equipment. There are also losses among the Syrian military," the Center reported.

The center emphasized the aggravation of the situation in Idlib over the past month. "In July, the Russian side recorded more than 140 violations of the ceasefire regime in the Idlib de-escalation zone. At the same time, illegal armed groups, under the guise of an agreement on the cessation of hostilities, are increasing their military potential," Rear Admiral Alexander Shcherbitsky, head of the Center, said at a briefing.

Also, the shelling of settlements from the positions of militants continued. So, nine attacks by the rebels in Rasha, Bsharfa, Mamuhiyah of Latakia, Dumeir, A'wejel, Mizanaz, Urum-es-Sugra, Herbert Jezraya, Bastratun in the province of Aleppo were recorded, the center added.

At the same time, over the past day, no attacks were registered by illegal armed groups controlled by Turkey.

The Russian military recalled that the current situation once again underlines the need for joint actions by Russia and Turkey to eliminate terrorists in the Idlib de-escalation zone.
