Russian doctors from the Special Purpose Medical Unit (MMU) have set up multifunctional medical brigades to assist the local population in the Askeran District of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Monday.
"As a general rule, appeals from local residents are connected with the exacerbation of various chronic diseases, as well as cardiovascular and endocrine system diseases, and dental care," the ministry said.
It is noted that the medical teams include doctors of various specialties, as well as psychological service specialists who provide assistance in remote villages and districts.
On November 29, the Defense Ministry informed that the first units of the Moscow Military District's Eastern Military District had arrived in the city. Among the specialists, there were over 60 medics, including military surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensive care specialists, therapists and epidemiologists.
Russian peacekeepers are in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone in accordance with the agreements recorded on November 9 in the joint statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on a complete ceasefire in the region.
The core of the peacekeeping contingent consists of units of the 15th Independent Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Central Military District. Russian observation posts are deployed along the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor linking Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. The command of the peacekeeping operation is located in Stepanakert.
