Military reporters from Russia, Syria and India received the Khaled Alkhateb Award

RT's Khaled Alkhateb International Memorial Awards was awarded to journalists from Russia, Syria and India, RT TV channel reports. 


RT's Khaled Alkhateb International Memorial Awards is awarded in three categories:" Best work from the conflict zone: short video"; "Best work from the conflict zone: long video", and "Best work from the conflict zone: text". Journalists from 16 countries claimed the victory.


The winner in the category "Best work from the conflict zone: short video" became a journalist from Syria, Mohamed Ali. His report "The truce has begun in Idlib" tells about the situation in the Syrian province of Idlib, where a ceasefire came into force as a result of an agreement between Russia and Turkey.


Russian journalist Alexander Konevich won the best work from the conflict zone: long video category. His series of reports "Russian military in Syria" tells how the Russian armed forces are helping the Syrian military and the civilian population of the country to overcome the consequences of the ongoing conflict.


Ruchi Kumar, a journalist from India, won the best work from the conflict zone: text category. Kumar's publication "Why Iran deports Afghan refugees" tells about the difficult conditions faced by Afghan refugees in Iran. The country's authorities annually deport hundreds of thousands of people to their homeland.


It is noted that the jury included VGTRK war correspondent Yevgeny Poddubny, who was awarded three TV TEFI awards for his work in Syria and Ukraine, and RT military reporter Murad Gazdiev, who covered major armed conflicts in recent years and mass protests around the world.


"Our award recognizes the work of military reporters who go to hot spots every year with a camera and microphone. Their work did not stop even during the global coronavirus epidemic. We are grateful to all who applied for participation, and we congratulate the winners," RT quotes Anna Belkina, Deputy editor-in-chief of the TV channel.


The participants' works were also evaluated by journalist, writer, expert in the field of US and Latin American foreign policy Eva Golinger, development Director of the International Association of broadcasters AIB Tom Wragg, war correspondent of the Italian newspaper il Giornale Gian Mikalessin, expert on Arab countries, correspondent of the Egyptian newspaper Youm7 Ahmed Gomaa and Greek journalist, winner of international awards Konstantinos Antonopoulos.


In 2019, works from 25 countries claimed the victory. The winners were representatives of Russia, the United States, Italy and India, who spoke about the conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Libya. The jury of the award included prominent foreign and Russian journalists, including Irada Zeynalova and Yevgeny Poddubny.
