Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation: Russia and the United States have begun consultations on Syria and Afghanistan

06 May 2019

The United States and Russia have launched expert consultations on Syria, Afghanistan and the Korean Peninsula. As Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has declared, they were started, after Washington has realized that its unilateral approaches did not work.

“We have many contradictions in a number of regional conflicts, including the Syrian and Afghan conflicts, on the situation on the Korean Peninsula, but the fact that in all these areas we have tied up enough professional consultations with the Americans, on their initiative, leaves hope that in the end common sense will prevail”, he emphasized.

According to the Head of Russian Diplomacy, in the United States, “the desire to offer solutions to certain problems unilaterally” still prevails, but it’s not always possible to implement them in practice, and then “life forces us to look for some collective approaches to one or another problem".
