The Russian health ministry sent a mobile multidisciplinary hospital to Syria to help the victims of the earthquake, the press service of the ministry told reporters on Monday.
"A mobile multidisciplinary hospital of the Federal Center for Disaster Medicine of the Russian Ministry of Health has been sent to Syria by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The cargo will be delivered by a Ruslan military transport aircraft of the Russian Defense Ministry," the report said.
Also in the coming days a multidisciplinary medical team will be sent to the region. These include surgeons, traumatologists, anesthesiologists, infectious disease specialists, ultrasound doctors and nurses.
"We are constantly expanding interaction with our colleagues from Syria and are ready to provide them with the necessary assistance and support. In the near future, about 40 medical specialists will go to Syria to provide medical care to the victims on the instructions of Russian Minister [of Health Mikhail Murashko]," the press service quotes Alexei Kuznetsov, an assistant to the Russian minister of health, as saying.
Together with the mobile hospital, humanitarian aid - 15 tons of medicines, medical equipment and basic necessities - was sent to Syria. The humanitarian aid was collected by the Russian health ministry together with the Syrian embassy in Moscow, the ministry added.
