Minovarov: Russia Acts as a Unifying Force

25 January 2022

Russia plays an important role in the Islamic world, especially in recent times. This was stated by Shoazim Minovarov, Director of the Centre for Islamic Culture under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the Strategic Vision Group ‘Russia – Islamic World’, held on November 24, 2021 in Jeddah. He is convinced that the Russian Federation acts as a unifying force, including in the Muslim world. And this is not surprising, because there are over 20 million Muslims in Russia who have a lot in common with the Muslim world in terms of culture and history.

‘As a human being I understand the concern of both Russia itself and other countries that the world, apart from all cataclysms, is really threatened by terrorism, or rather the ideology of radical organizations. What should one undertake in order to effectively counter all these challenges? How is it better to get united and in what form?’, the expert explains.

Minovarov is confident that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s new policy of finally adopting a moderate Islamic stance and confronting the threat the whole world is talking about plays a special role here.

‘Our Republic also actively cooperates with Russia in preserving tolerance in a multi-national and multi-confessional society. I am glad that we not only exchange our experience, but also closely cooperate in this direction. After all, the threat has different faces and forms, and the fight against the radical ideology must be adequate and comprehensive. We must be active in information security, economic sphere, promote cooperation between religious leaders, between intellectuals and academics. We are united in the need not just to unite, but also to exchange experience and make all joint efforts to successfully counteract the threats of modernity,’ Shoazim Minovarov concluded.
