Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkey Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan took part in the commissioning ceremony of a new thermal power plant (TPP) in Kibray district of Tashkent region and gave start to the construction of another TPP in Khavast district of Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan. This was reported on Wednesday by the press service of the president of Uzbekistan.
"The presidents, having pressed a symbolic button, launched a thermal power plant in Kibray district and gave the start to the construction of a thermal power plant in Khavast district," the report said.
It is noted that the ceremony was held within the framework of Erdogan's official visit to Uzbekistan.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Energy, the capacity of the thermal power station, which will be built in the Khavast district of Syrdarya region, will be 1.6 GW, and its efficiency will exceed 60%, which will be one of the highest in the country. The cost of the project is estimated at $1.2 billion and the plant is expected to be commissioned in 2026.
Earlier, it was also reported that since the beginning of 2022, two new thermal power plants in Bukhara and Khorezm regions of the republic have been put into operation in Uzbekistan.
