Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin called the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine the most effective and said it could be used to deal with the pandemic.

The two heads of government held talks at the White house. Before the photo ceremony, Mishustin congratulated his counterpart in the Kazakh language on the holiday of Nowruz.

"Today we really use the Sputnik V vaccine as part of the vaccination of the population. We consider it really one of the most effective and we continue to produce it in Karaganda and want to produce it as much as possible. We believe it is the most effective vaccine, which will help us cope with this situation," Mamin said.

He expressed gratitude to the Russian side for the joint work being done to combat the coronavirus and for the assistance provided.

Mishustin also spoke highly of the Russian vaccine at the meeting, noting that the countries helped each other during the pandemic.

"This is one of the most effective vaccines in the world today, I really hope that it will help us deal with the threats, the risks that the very coronavirus brings," he said.

The scientific journal Lancet published in early February the results of the phase III clinical trial of the Sputnik V vaccine, confirming its high efficacy and safety. During the phase III clinical trials, Sputnik V demonstrated high efficacy, immunogenicity and safety, with an efficacy rate of 91.6 percent. The vaccine provides complete protection against severe cases of new coronavirus infection.

The Sputnik V vaccine has been approved in more than 50 countries with a combined population of over 1.4 billion people. Sputnik V has the second-highest number of approvals by government regulators in the world.
