Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin believes that transport and logistics projects of Russia and Azerbaijan will be a driver for increasing cooperation between the two countries.
"The transport sphere is very important, we are convinced that joint infrastructure and logistics projects will become a new driver for building up the whole complex of cooperation," the Russian prime minister said at a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Friday. He emphasized the importance of the North-South international transport corridor. "We expect that by 2030 the volume of transportation through it will increase to 15 million tons per year," said the head of the Russian cabinet.
"We work very actively through the governments to implement the decisions of the presidents of the two countries", assured Mishustin. According to him, the talks with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov on Thursday focused on cooperation in energy, industry, transport, cultural and humanitarian spheres and resulted in the signing of a number of agreements to develop cooperation in various fields.
Russian Prime Minister assured that "cultural and humanitarian ties are traditionally of great importance." He paid attention to the fact that branches of Russian universities successfully operate in Baku, more than 11,000 students from Azerbaijan study in Russia. "Such contacts between people contribute to acquaintance with rich traditions, culture and traditions of our countries," Mishustin believes.
"Next year we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the outstanding Soviet and Azerbaijani statesman, your father Heydar Aliyev," the head of the Russian cabinet of ministers addressed to the Azerbaijani president. Mishustin congratulated Aliyev on the state holiday - National Revival Day, celebrated in Azerbaijan on November 17, conveyed "the best, warmest wishes" from Russian President Vladimir Putin and thanked for the warm welcome extended to the Russian delegation in Baku.
The talks between Aliyev and Mishustin were held in an extended format with the participation of delegations, and the Azerbaijani president also had a one-on-one meeting with the Russian prime minister.
