Mishustin goes on a two-day visit to Kyrgyzstan to meet with his EEU colleagues

25 August 2022

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will pay a working visit to Kyrgyzstan on August 25-26 where he will participate in the regular meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council (EIC) in Cholpon-Ata. It will be the 32nd meeting since the beginning of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the third this year. Traditionally, during the event the heads of the governments of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan will discuss topical problems of deepening integration in the union.

According to the press service of the Russian cabinet of ministers, the parties will discuss the preparation of several draft agreements within the EEU, including an agreement on the formation of a common gas market and an agreement on the regulation of the alcohol market.

"The session will include a report on financing of the industrial cooperation in the union and some issues of tax regulation of cross-border electronic commerce of goods",  the materials of the meeting reads.

Special attention will be paid to development of transit potential of EEU, it is expected that the list of priority integration infrastructure projects in the field of transport in the territory of state-members of the association will be approved, added in the cabinet of the Russian Federation. As a result, decisions providing for further development of the Eurasian economic integration will be signed.

Previous EIC meeting

Last time the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council was held on June 20-21 in Minsk, where 15 documents on the development of cooperation were signed.

As pointed out by the Russian prime minister, speaking at the last meeting, the EEU has proved its effectiveness during the existence of the association, as the benefits of the integration work are felt by citizens of the member countries. However Mishustin stated that the West pressure on individual states of the union is increasing, and only together can respond to this. In this regard, the Prime Minister pointed to the need to continue creating conditions for the normal operation of business in the EEU, expanding the use of national currencies and work on development of import substitution. He also stressed that the union countries are fully self-sufficient in key food products and will continue to protect the interests of their producers.

The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council ensures implementation and supervision of the EEU Treaty and decisions of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, gives instructions to the Eurasian Economic Commission, as well as exercises other powers provided by the Treaty and international agreements within the framework of the association. The meetings of the EEU consider a significant part of the fundamental issues of the integration interaction of the "five" states.
