Mishustin in Minsk to take part in enlarged meeting of Eurasian Intergovernmental Council

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will take part in an enlarged meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council (EIC) on Tuesday during a two-day working visit to Minsk. It is expected to be attended by the heads of governments of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as representatives from the EEU observer countries, Cuba and Uzbekistan.


June 20, there was a meeting of the EIC membership, where welcoming speeches were made by Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko and chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov (the country currently chairs the EEU bodies). Golovchenko, in particular, noted that the association countries have everything necessary to successfully overcome the current period of the global economic war. He added that the economies of Belarus and Russia are able to withstand Western sanctions. In turn, Zhaparov pointed out that a large number of events are scheduled for the EAEU space this year.


In addition, on Monday, Mishustin had separate meetings with Golovchenko and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. During the first of them he drew attention to the fact that Russia and Belarus have already accomplished more than a third of the activities within the framework of 28 integration programs. He also said that presidents Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko would meet again at the Forum of Regions of the Union State this year.


In addition, June 20, Mishustin visited the Amkodor company, which manufactures a variety of special equipment and components, as well as the Minsk branch of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.


On the agenda of the meeting


As reported earlier, this time, during the meeting, special attention will be paid to the interaction in the field of the functioning of the internal EEU market and the development of customs and tariff regulations, as well as in the transport sector. In addition, the prime ministers will discuss deepening cooperation in the digital industry, consider reports on the status and prospects of development of an integrated information system of the Union.


The meeting will include a report of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) for the past year on competition in cross-border markets and measures to curb violations of competition rules, as well as a program of joint activities of the EEU member states in the field of consumer protection.


According to the information from the press service of the RF Cabinet of Ministers, during the event it is planned to make a decision on creation of the commission for cooperation and import substitution in priority and high-tech industries in the EEU. The heads of government are expected to sign decisions of the EIC, providing for further development of economic integration in the Eurasian space.


After the meeting, the heads of delegations will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Victory Monument in Victory Square.


Eurasian Intergovernmental Council ensures the implementation and supervision of the EEU Treaty and decisions of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, gives instructions to the EEC, as well as exercises other powers provided by the Treaty and international agreements within the framework of the association.
