Russia and Kazakhstan's efforts to counter sanctions are yielding good results, primarily in the field of trade and economic cooperation, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said on Monday at talks with his Kazakh counterpart Alikhan Smailov on the sidelines of Innoprom.
"Together with Kazakhstan's partners, we are taking effective measures to protect bilateral cooperation from the influence of illegitimate economic sanctions of unfriendly states against Russia. These efforts give positive results, first of all in the field of trade and economic cooperation," he said.
Mishustin expressed confidence that the deepening of industrial cooperation and the launch of new joint projects will give a powerful impetus to the development of the whole complex of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The head of the Cabinet of Ministers stressed that Russia considers further strengthening of friendship and partnership with Kazakhstan as an unconditional priority. "Our cooperation is time-tested and has repeatedly proved its resilience to external challenges," he stressed.
Trade turnover and new projects
Mishustin reminded that trade turnover between the two countries last year reached a record high, exceeding $25 billion, and in the first four months of this year it increased by 10.5% - to $8 billion. At the same time, he said, it is necessary to increase these figures by creating new production chains in various sectors of the economy. The Russian prime minister also noted the mutual complementarity of economic, industrial and technological potentials of Moscow and Nur-Sultan.
"In the near future we plan to launch promising infrastructure and transport projects under import substitution programs, additional production capacities will be created. We believe that our Kazakh partners have a good opportunity to replace companies from unfriendly states that have stopped working in the Russian market, because the reorientation of commodity flows is not a temporary trend, but a long-term process that will strengthen the stability of our economies and help create new points of growth," he said.
Mishustin also asked Smailov to convey his best wishes to Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev from Russian leader Vladimir Putin. "I would like to take this opportunity to ask you to give my warmest greetings and best wishes to Mr. Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, from Russian President Vladimir Putin and, of course, from me personally," he said.
