Mishustin to celebrate 57th birthday at talks in Dushanbe

03 March 2023

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin continues his working visit to Tajikistan. Here he will celebrate his birthday: on Friday, the head of the Russian cabinet of ministers turns 57.

This is not the first time Mishustin celebrates this holiday working. Two years ago he was on a business trip to Siberia. On March 3 - on his 55th birthday - the prime minister worked in the Republic of Altai.

This Friday he has scheduled events in Dushanbe.

One of the main is bilateral talks. The head of the Russian cabinet and Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda will discuss cooperation in various areas, including trade, energy, industry, transport, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The conversation will take place in both narrow and extended formats. In addition, Mishustin will meet with Rustam Emomali, chairman of Tajikistan's upper house of parliament and mayor of Dushanbe.

The Russian prime minister also had a working program in Dushanbe on Thursday. In particular, the Russian prime minister was received by President Emomali Rahmon. According to the plans, a package of intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents will be signed on Friday as a result of all contacts.

In addition, the day before Mishustin spoke at the plenary session of the 9th conference on inter-regional cooperation "Business and investment partnership between Russia and Tajikistan", laid a wreath at the monument of Ismoili Somoni, who is considered the founder of the first Tajik state, as well as visited the Russia-Tajikistan high school named after Yuri Gagarin.

Developing relations

Mishustin has not yet visited Dushanbe as prime minister, but he has been in regular contact with his Tajik colleagues, both bilaterally and multilaterally. In particular, in April 2021, he spoke with the prime minister of Tajikistan on the sidelines of a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Kazan.

The chairman of the Russian government then drew attention to the fact that relations between Moscow and Dushanbe were of a partnership nature and were based on "the principles of friendship, mutual respect and brotherhood." And, according to him, the sides are interested in strengthening such ties.

Russia and Tajikistan established diplomatic relations on April 8, 1992. Since then, the countries have concluded more than 300 interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements. At the end of 2022, trade turnover exceeded $1.67 billion.

The volume of accumulated investments coming to Tajikistan from the Russian Federation is more than $1.6 billion. Russian investments in the republic exceed 16%; they are directed to such spheres of the national economy as construction, communications, geological exploration, financial intermediation, health care, trade, energy, tourism and others.

Interregional cooperation is actively developing - Tajikistan has established trade relations with 80 Russian regions.
