Mishustin to hold talks with Qatar's PM

21 June 2023

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will meet with Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Moscow on Wednesday.

The heads of governments will discuss topical issues of the Russian-Qatari economic and humanitarian cooperation, paying special attention to joint projects in energy, industry and agriculture.

According to the press service of the Russian government, Russia and Qatar have years-long relations of friendship and cooperation. Qatar is an important partner of Russia in the Middle East region, and the relations between the countries are built on the principles of mutual benefits and respect for interests.

A key instrument of cooperation between the governments of Russia and Qatar is the joint commission on trade, economic and technical cooperation. From the Russian side, it is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

The Russian cabinet specified that agriculture is one of the most significant areas of cooperation between Moscow and Doha: last year trade turnover in agricultural products increased by 50.9%, including due to growing supplies of Russian wheat and other grain products. Exports of Russian agricultural products to Qatar doubled in January-May this year, compared to the same period in 2022.

In addition, the active work on preparations and holding of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar last year contributed to strengthening bilateral ties between the countries. Conditions have been created for further joint work in the fields of health, culture, youth and sports. In April 2023 Doha hosted a tour of the Moscow Ballet Theatre of classical choreography La Classique.
