Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin continues to work on Friday in Ashgabat, where he arrived the day before. He is scheduled to meet with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
As the press service of the Russian Cabinet of Ministers announced earlier, the sides will discuss topical issues of development of Russian-Turkmen cooperation. Special attention will be paid to deepening cooperation in trade, economic, transport, industrial, energy, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
On the first day of his visit, Mishustin addressed the plenary session of the Russian-Turkmen Business Forum. He emphasized that the West is now exerting harsh pressure on Russia and its partner countries, but this is also a time of new opportunities. In particular, the prime minister noted that the Turkmen business could replace some of the niches in Russia that were vacated after Western companies left, and now is the best time for that.
Speaking of promising joint projects, he mentioned the discussion between Moscow and Ashgabat on the construction of a road along the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea as part of the North-South transport corridor. In addition, Mishustin added, the Russian Federation is ready to consider simplifying customs control with Turkmenistan and easing visa regime for representatives of business circles.
On Thursday, the Russian prime minister also visited a joint Turkmen-Russian secondary comprehensive school named after A.S. Pushkin. He toured the classrooms and talked to children and teachers. Following his visit Mishustin instructed Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin and Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov to solve the issue of constructing a new building for the school.
In general, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers said he liked Ashgabat and expressed admiration for the beauty of the city. This is Mishustin's first visit to Turkmenistan as prime minister.
