Mohammad Javad Zarif: Iran may reconsider its participation in a nuclear deal

07 May 2019

If the European Union is unable to assist Iran in countering the US sanctions, Tehran has the right to reconsider its participation in a nuclear deal, since it would not make sense. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif declared about this in an interview for RIA Novosti.

“If Iran’s interests are secured by the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) and the EU is committed to its commitments, Iran will remain committed to the agreement. As soon as the EU is unable to assist Iran in the matter of countering sanctions, it is possible that the unilateral presence of Iran in the JCPOA will lose its meaning and significance. In this case, it is possible to revise the adopted restrictions in the framework of the JCPOA”, the agency quotes the Head of Iranian Diplomacy.

It is known that in May last year, the United States announced its withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal and the restoration of all sanctions in force against Tehran.
