In five regions of Russia, the Federal Security Service detained accomplices of the terrorist organization operating in Syria, who collected money for the Syrian fighters under the guise of charity, the Russian Federal Security Service's Center for Public Relations (CPR) told TASS on Thursday.

"The Federal Security Service on the territory of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, Astrakhan, Volgograd, Samara and Moscow regions detained five Russian citizens - accomplices of the international terrorist organization (ITO) Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (banned in Russia), currently operating in Syria," the FSB noted.

According to the special service, on the instructions of emissaries of the terrorist organization, the detainees created an extensive inter-regional network for the collection, accumulation and transfer of funds to accounts and bank cards registered to third parties. "The money received under the guise of charity was sent to the needs of fighters in the terrorist-controlled zone of the Syrian Arab Republic in Idlib," the FSB reported.

Communication equipment, payment devices, as well as other documentary materials confirming their illegal activities, were found at the places of residence of the detainees. Criminal cases were opened against the detainees for facilitating terrorist activities.
