More than 10 planes and helicopters of the Central Military District (CMD) will be involved in joint exercises of Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan at the Harb-Maydon training ground 20 kilometers from the border with Afghanistan. This was reported to journalists by the district's press service on Monday.

"The practical actions involve a wing of Su-25 attack aircraft, Mi-24 attack helicopters, as well as Mi-8 transport and combat helicopters of various modifications. During the main stage of the exercises, the pilots will perform tasks of searching for camouflaged bases of a conventional enemy, and launching missile and bomb strikes on targets simulating the accumulation of manpower and equipment," the report said.

The press service specified that crews of transport and amphibious helicopters will ensure the landing of tactical landing troops, as well as practice methods of escaping from strikes of portable anti-aircraft missile systems of the conventional enemy.

The district announced earlier that the exercises were held against the background of destabilization of the situation in neighboring Afghanistan in order to develop the issues of possible threats and practical cooperation in ensuring security and maintaining stability in the Central Asian region.

During the exercise, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will practice the practical actions of destroying militants, conducting aerial reconnaissance and protection of facilities. A total of 2,500 servicemen, including 1,800 from Russia, and about 500 pieces of weapons and military hardware will be involved. Units of the 201st military base form the basis of the Russian military contingent at the exercises. The exercise will continue until August 10.
