More than 260 teams from 35 countries will take part in the International Army Games, which will be held from August 13 to 27 on the territory of 12 states, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Army General Pavel Popov said on Wednesday at a briefing for foreign military attachés.
"This year the games are hosted by 12 states: Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Vietnam, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, Russia and Uzbekistan. For the first time, the "Sniper Frontier" competition will be held in South America, with Venezuela as the host country. In total, more than 260 teams from 35 countries, numbering more than 6.5 thousand people are entered to participate in the games. These countries represent more than 4 billion of the world's population," he said.
According to Popov, this year's Army Games debutants will be teams from Bolivia and Rwanda.
"The International Army Games will be an excellent platform to showcase the capabilities of weapons and military equipment. Despite unprecedented attempts by the West to isolate Russia and other sovereign states, the geography of the Army Games continues to expand - 34 contests are planned to be held on three continents," the general said.
He also says that in order to bring peoples closer together, to acquaint them with cultural traditions of participating countries and to popularize the games, thematic events will be held in the Museum of the Army Games, "Friendship Houses" and "Supporters Clubs". Guests and participants of the events, along with the opportunity to study the geography, history of the development of the games and contests will be able to attend performances by creative teams of the participating countries, master classes, drawings, and exhibitions devoted to the friendly relations of the defense agencies.
