Morocco expressed concern over some statements by members of Israel's government

Dialogue and negotiations are the only way to reach a final settlement of the Palestinian question. Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita said this in Rabat on Wednesday, according to Maghreb Arabe Press (MAP).

"Morocco follows with concern some statements by members of the Israeli government containing provocations against Arab countries and the rights of the Palestinian people. The kingdom constantly condemns and rejects any irresponsible action and any behavior that could be provocative or have a negative impact," stressed the foreign minister.

The official Rabat states, Bourita continued, that "dialogue and negotiations are the only way to achieve a final settlement of the Palestinian question within the framework of respect for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their state within the June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side, in tranquility and cooperation with the State of Israel." "This position is consistent with international law, the Arab Peace Initiative and UN Security Council resolutions," the Moroccan minister added.

Israeli minister's statement

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, also a leader of the governing coalition party Religious Zionism, speaking at a private Jewish community event in Paris on March 19, said that there is no Palestinian people and that only Jews should be considered the only true Palestinians.

According to Smotrich's version, there is no such thing as a Palestinian people; this nation is an invention of Arab activists who opposed the mass return of Jewish immigrants to their historic homeland at the end of the 19th century.

Some Arab countries condemned the Israeli minister's remarks, including the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Egypt, with which Israel has diplomatic relations.
