The Moroccan government recalled its ambassador to Stockholm on Wednesday in protest after the burning of the Quran, the kingdom's foreign Ministry said Thursday.
"By the highest order of the King, the Swedish chargé d'affaires has been summoned to Rabat, and the ambassador to Stockholm has also been summoned for consultations," the Moroccan foreign ministry said in a statement published on its website.
It adds that "this new, irresponsible, hostile act [of burning the Quran] neglects the feelings of more than a billion Muslims during this holy period, which coincides with the Hajj and Eid al-Adha holiday season."
