Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov and Tajik foreign minister Sirodjiddin Mukhriddin confirmed by phone on Friday their intention to coordinate efforts on the situation in Afghanistan.

"The foreign ministers discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation as well as preparations for high-level events in the coming months. The line for coordination of efforts on the situation in Afghanistan in view of the decisions of the CSTO and SCO summits in September and the results of the meeting in the Moscow format on October 20 was confirmed," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.

In addition, the sides touched on a number of practical aspects of cooperation in the field of labor migration and cultural and humanitarian interaction. "On the Russian side, attention was drawn to the need to complete the process of transferring school No. 7 in the city of Kulyab from the jurisdiction of the Russian defense ministry to the Russian-Tajik (Slavonic) university in Dushanbe," Smolenskaya Square noted.

The Taliban movement (banned in Russia) launched a large-scale operation to establish control over Afghanistan after the announcement of the US decision to withdraw its armed forces from there this spring. On August 15, the radicals entered Kabul without any fighting, and president Ashraf Ghani left the country. On September 6, the Taliban declared that they had taken control of the entire territory of Afghanistan, and on September 7, they announced the composition of the provisional government, the legitimacy of which was not recognized by any country.
