Participants of a meeting in the Moscow format on Afghanistan stressed the importance of forming an inclusive government in the country, the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement issued Wednesday following the meeting.
"In the course of the meeting, the prospects for the development of the military and political situation in Afghanistan were discussed. The importance of forming an inclusive Afghan government that reflects the interests of all ethnopolitical forces in the country as a key step towards promoting inter-Afghan national reconciliation was stressed," the report said.
"Concern was expressed about the activity of international terrorist organizations in Afghanistan, first of all, ISIS (the old name of the terrorist group Islamic State banned in the Russian Federation - TASS). The two sides confirmed their desire to continue to assist in ensuring peace and security in Afghanistan and the region," the ministry added.
On Wednesday, the Russian capital hosted the third meeting in the Moscow format on Afghanistan. It was established in 2017 on the basis of a six-party consultation mechanism of special representatives of Russia, Afghanistan, India, Iran, China and Pakistan.
