Participants of the Moscow format of consultations on Afghanistan will discuss the prospects of the military and political situation in Afghanistan, as well as the efforts of the international community to prevent a humanitarian crisis in this country on October 20, the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
"The meeting is scheduled to discuss prospects for the development of the military-political situation in Afghanistan and the formation of an inclusive government. The issues of consolidation of the international community's efforts to prevent a humanitarian crisis in this country will also be touched upon," the statement said.
The event is planned to be attended by representatives from 10 countries of the region, as well as a high-level delegation of the Taliban movement (banned in Russia), representing Afghanistan. Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov will address the meeting participants. A joint statement is planned to be adopted following the meeting.
The Moscow format was established in 2017 on the basis of a six-party consultation mechanism of special representatives of Russia, Afghanistan, India, Iran, China, and Pakistan.
