Moscow hosts Russian-Iranian consultations to discuss Syria situation

Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Vershinin and Russian presidential special envoy for the Syrian settlement Alexander Lavrentyev discussed the stabilization of the situation in Syria, Afghanistan and Yemen with Ali Asghar Haji, senior assistant to Iranian foreign minister for special political affairs, the Russian MFA reported on Wednesday.


Russian-Iranian consultations were held in Moscow on October 6. "The issues of the current situation in and around Syria, as well as the tasks of advancing the political process and providing comprehensive humanitarian assistance to the Syrians, as stipulated in UN Security Council resolutions 2254 and 2585, were discussed in detail," the statement said.


In addition, the Russian foreign ministry said, Vershinin touched on a number of topical issues on the regional agenda before the UN Security Council, with a focus on international efforts to stabilize the situation and settle Afghanistan and Yemen.
