Humanitarian aid collected at the initiative of the Religious Board of Muslims will be handed over to hundreds of Syrian refugee families in Lebanon on March 30, the Moscow mufti Ildar Alyautdinov told TASS reporter on Sunday.
"Almost every year we visit our Syrian brothers and sisters who were forced to move to Lebanon and are now living in camps," the Mufti said. - "All our visits are of a charitable nature, we give vital assistance to the families of displaced persons, and we also meet with orphans whom we care for and allocate monthly amounts for their material provision.
According to Alyautdinov, visits to refugee camps are accompanied by the opening of social facilities, usually schools and kindergartens. "The opening of a playground for 300 children will be timed to coincide with the current visit," he noted.
The Mufti reported on a planned trip from Beirut to Damascus, where a number of official meetings will be held. "We expect to visit Damascus this week in order to assess and understand on the spot what we, Russian Muslims, on behalf of our country can do there in terms of charitable projects," he stressed. - "It's important for us, because there are people in Syria who share the same faith and religion with us".
Among possible projects, Alyautdinov mentioned building a settlement for Syrian families in need of housing.
In November 2020, funds raised by the Russian Zakyat charitable foundation provided humanitarian aid to 250 Syrian families in Lebanon. There was also the opening of a school built with the collected funds. During the visit, the Mufti of the Russian capital met with spiritual leaders of Lebanese Muslims and Christians, as well as with representatives of the Russian Embassy in Beirut.
