Muftis urged Muslims to value life

30 July 2020

First Deputy Mufti of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Valiullin and Deputy Chairman of the Russian Muftis Council Rushan Abbyasov urged believers to appreciate every moment of life, to treat their neighbors with patience and attention at the press conference of the project "Religion and worldview" in MIA Russia today.

Eid al-Adha (in Arabic) or Kurban Bairam (in Turkic) is one of the main Muslim holidays. It is celebrated on the tenth day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah of the Islamic lunar calendar and lasts for three days. Every year, the date of the holiday changes, in 2020, Eid al-Adha begins on July 31.

"(On the occasion of Eid al-Adha – ed.), I would like to wish the faithful patience, mutual respect, and maximum sacrifice. Because the sacrifice is not only (in the slaughter – ed.) of a lamb, but in the fact that a person in his soul has brought up the ability to yield to his neighbor, " Valiullin said.

He also called on believers of all faiths to listen to their spiritual mentors and teachers. "We all need to learn to be sacrificial, listen, and implement good intentions," Valiullin stressed.

In turn, the First Deputy Chairman of the RMC, the mufti of the Moscow region Rushan Abbyasov called on people to rethink their faith in God in connection with the pandemic.

"God gives us time to be more righteous, to try to hear and understand each other better. We are responsible for each of our actions and words: in this world and in the hereafter. Therefore, I urge you to appreciate every moment of life, to understand that we are not eternal, and no one knows how much is allowed to someone in this world, to do as much good as possible, to be more righteous, to be patient with all adversity. And of course, we need to draw conclusions and improve, " Abbyasov said.

According to him, in order to fulfill these instructions, the Almighty gives people such holidays as Eid al-Adha, as well as "so that we move away from the worldly vanity that engulfs us, to reflect on the eternal and spiritual." Then, the mufti noted, " it will be more interesting and easier to live."

"We should always respect each other, regardless of national and religious differences: we are all creations of the highest and descend from the same father and mother – Adam and Eve. God created us different, so that we know, respect and appreciate each other and create for the good," Abbyasov summed up.
