25 December 2020

The forum "Islam in a Multicultural World", which has been held for 10 years, contributes to the discussion of contemporary problems of development of intercultural and interreligious dialogue, Farit Mukhametshin said speaking at the plenary session of the Forum, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Member of the Federation Council, Deputy Chairman of the Group of Strategic Vision  "Russia - Islamic World".

The diplomat underlined the high scientific level of the discussion, which brings together renowned experts, including international organizations.

For example, a speech by Irina Bokova, who headed UNESCO from 2009 to 2017, according to Mukhametshin, gives new meaning to the discussed problems.

"I am glad that Irina Bokova spoke at the Forum. While serving as Director-General of UNESCO from 2009 to 2017, she embodied the idea of a "new humanism". I recall her brilliant speech just a few months ago at the Chingiz Aitmatov International Forum of Writers and Intellectuals, organized by the GSV "Russia-Islamic World". And today her participation in the Forum gives a new meaning to the problems discussed", he noted.

The speech of Ramazan Abdulatipov, public figure and statesman, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Doctor of Philosophy, Permanent Representative of Russia to the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation and member of the Group of Strategic Vision, also enriched the Forum experience since he is one of the well-known experts in this area.

The participation of Vitaly Naumkin, a renowned Orientalist, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Scientific Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, also gives the forum a special flavor.

"As one of the active members of the Group of Strategic Vision, his contribution to the issues under discussion is invaluable,"  Mukhametshin emphasized.

The honorary guest of the Forum was also a long-standing friend of Russia and the Group of Strategic Vision, a recognized expert on UNESCO World Heritage, Special Advisor of the UNESCO Director-General Mounir Bouchenaki, with whose direct assistance Russia participated in many international events, including the first celebration of the UNESCO International Day of Islamic Art in Bahrain (November 18, 2020).

Mukhmetshin recalled that Rustam Minnikhanov, Chairman of the Group of Strategic Vision, sent a video greeting in connection with the event, which was shown at the opening ceremony of the celebration in Bahrain.

"We have a lot of interesting things ahead in cooperation with Mr. Mounir Bouchenaki," Farit Mukhametshin concluded.
