11 November 2020

In recent years, relations between Russia and Africa have reached a new level, Farit Mukhametshin, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs and Vice-Chairman of the GSV, speaking at the International Scientific Forum "Russia-Africa: Politics, Economy, History and Culture", organized by Kazan Federal University with the participation of the Group of Strategic Vision  "Russia - Islamic World".

He recalled that one of the most important events that defined the goals and objectives of relations between Russia and the African continent was the forum "Russia - Africa", which was held in Sochi in 2019 under the patronage of the Presidents of Russia and Egypt Vladimir Putin and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the forum, noted that African states were gaining political and economic weight and were taking an increasingly active part in developing decisions of the international community. All this creates prerequisites for intensifying cooperation between Russia and Africa," Mukhametshin stressed.

According to him, the summit also noted the existence of a strong historical base in the relations between Russia and Africa, based on mutual respect and trust. They were specially developed when thousands of African students were studying in the USSR universities. Work in this direction continues to this day, including in Kazan.

In general, work with young people and, in particular, in the educational sphere, is one of the most important tasks of the Group of Strategic Vision  "Russia - Islamic World", said Farit Mukhametshin, adding that on November 12 at KFU in the framework of the X International Forum "Islam in a multicultural world", which will be held in December in a mixed format, the IV Student Contest in the Arabic language will take place. The Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World" is a partner of the contest.

As Farit Mukhametshin reminded, the International Arabic Language Day, established by UNESCO, will be celebrated on December 18.
